Up until a few years ago, I wasn’t a big TV person. I went my entire four years of college without Netflix or cable. Even when I had cable living at home, I was never really devoted to any one television series, feeling like I needed to watch it every week. Now I’d say I’m pretty much obsessed with TV series and I’m heavily invested in a few. Jake had introduced me to Spartacus a few years ago, cause he thought I’d like it. Yeah he was totally right. Now I’ve caught up on a lot of series I missed out on.
Let’s talk about Spartacus and why you haven’t watched it yet. Like I said, this was the TV show that got me started on everything else. The series is relatively short, along with a prequel season, you could probably watch in a weekend if you tried. The series made a prequel after season one because Andy Whitfield who played Spartacus passed away after a battle with cancer. They had to take some time to recast the main character and I feel like they did a really good job. I don’t know if I prefer Whitfield over Liam McIntyre because they both did an amazing job at their roles. Now, you need to watch this series before continuing any of your other TV shows because I feel like it preps your for anything else that could possibly happen in a TV show. GOT lovers, I’m looking at you. This show is definitely graphic on all levels, so to be honest I don’t recommend it for anyone under the age of 18. This is also the show where you’ll learn not to attach yourself to any characters. SPOILER ALERT: I’m pretty sure nearly every character died at the end of the season, expect for five or six characters. I will admit that this show is not written or filmed the best, but I really love this show and I recommend it to everyone.
Next on my list of favorite shows is Sons of Anarchy. I think it’s safe to say I live and breathe by this show and I’m heavily committed to it and the characters. I’ve watched the series twice now and also recommend it to everyone. After season five, I didn’t enjoy the story line so much but the final season made up for it.
Just like everyone else in this world, I love Game of Thrones. I started watching this show in 2014 and caught up in a month. The writing of this show is phenomenal and all the actors play their characters perfectly. I don’t prefer one family over the other, because some of the families I like because they’re good and some of them I like because they’re so evil. This show is in season five and I still have to pause in every episode to ask for clarifications. Reading Game of Thrones, or rather A Song of Ice and Fire, is even more difficult than keeping track of what’s going on in the show. I gave it a shot and made it through on chapter before I had to return it to the library.
Other shows I really like include Breaking Bad that’s written more like a book than a TV show. You really have to pay attention to the details of this show, but when you finish the series it’s totally worth it. The Walking Dead of course is on the list, but I mostly watch this show because I started it and can’t not finish it. I thought season three and four were lame and the show made me more angry than anything. Season five finished this spring and I actually enjoyed it. I just wish that these people would stop falling for stupid residential gimmicks and Carl would listen to his dad. I’m excited for the next season now that Rick is getting a little on the crazy side of things. House is also up there in my favorites, although it gets repetitive after season four, but I highly recommend watching it if you can sit through it.
Currently I’m watching Supernatural which is alright. I like that it keeps me scared but I can have it on in the background as I’m packing up my apartment. I tried getting into Lost since everyone raved about it high school, but I honestly don’t get the mystery of it. I’m through season one and Jake said if I’m not addicted to it now I probably never will be. I’ve been struggling to get through Gossip Girl for over a year now. I’ll get around to it eventually, it’s just not my type of show. Next on the list of shows to watch is Black Sails which Emma Pickles said was one of her favorites at the moment. She shares a lot of favorite TV shows with me so I have hope that it’ll be a good series.
What are your favorite TV shows? What do I need to watch? I’m open to suggestions!
